• Our €2 Saving Stamps and machines are to be discontinued on 30th June 2018.

• This service is being replaced with our new E Stamp Balance now available on your account. Your E Stamp Balance is faster, more secure and will provide you with a more efficient service.

• Members have until 30th of September 2018 to cash their €2 Saving Stamps in any of our three offices in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin.

To ensure that Cara Credit Union Ltd is in full compliance with Anti Money Laundering (AML) regulation and guidance issued by the Central Bank of Ireland we are phasing out all €2 Saving Stamp services in their current format.

What does AML Regulations and Guidance specify?
AML Regulations specify that we must ensure that “money in all accounts (including stamps) can be attributed to individual members”. As this is not possible to do at the time of purchase with our existing €2 Saving Stamps and machines we are moving saving
stamp services to a more secure E Stamp Balance now available on your Account.

What alternatives are available to you?
To be eligible for Free Life Savings Insurance (terms and conditions apply) and a Dividend (if applicable) on your savings we would encourage you to save into your Shares (Savings) Account.

If you do not want to lodge money to your Shares/ Savings we have introduced an E Stamp Balance on your Account.

Here is some additional information you may find useful.

Why are we changing from the €2 Saving Stamps to an E Stamp Balance?

Due to increased regulation we need to be in full compliance with Anti Money Laundering regulation and we have received guidance issued by the Central Bank of Ireland to phase out the stamps in their current format.

You will have seen in the news that some of the large financial institutions have received fines in the last 12 months for failing to comply with these regulations. We do not want this to happen to Cara Credit Union.

What is Anti-Money Laundering and how does it affect Saving Stamps?

We must ensure that money in all accounts, including saving stamps, can be attributed to an individual member. We cannot do this with the current €2 paper stamps. But don’t worry we have an alternative, with a more secure E Stamp Balance.

When is this change happening?

We want to give you the members as much advance notice as possible. We will phase them out from 30th of June but you will have until the 30th September to lodge the cards to your account. If you would like to keep your savings you can lodge your cards to your Shares/ Saving account where you will receive FREE life Saving Insurance or you can lodge to an E Stamp account (please note you will not have insurance cover or receive a dividend in the E stamp account).

We have other options available?

We are delighted to offer you two alternatives:

  • You can lodge to you Shares (Savings) account. We can help set up a direct debit for you (call 066 712 2373) or call into one of our offices in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin. You can fill in a CU disbursement form to transfer funds from your bank account to your savings account. We also have an Express Lodge in our Tralee Office or you can lodge at any counter in Tralee, Castleisland or Killorglin. The advantage here is that you are eligible for Free Life Savings Insurance (T&C’s Apply) and a dividend (if applicable)
  • We have a new balance called an E Stamp Balance. You can use this if you do not want to lodge into your Shares/Savings. In this balance you DO NOT have the benefits of Life Savings Insurance or a dividend.

What is the difference between an E Stamp Account and a Saving/Shares Account?

The E Stamp balance is a replacement for the €2 Saving Cards and should only be used for short term saving. The E Stamp balance should only have sufficient funds to save for Christmas, holidays and events. All other savings should be lodged to your Shares/Saving Account as this account is eligible for free Life Cover (Life Saving and Loan protection Insurance) and to receive a dividend (if applicable). PLEASE NOTE the E Stamp account will not have life cover nor will it receive a dividend if one applicable.

Thank you for your understanding?

We understand this change is a disappointment and an initial inconvenience. This is outside of our control; however, we would like to work with you to endeavor you continue saving with us. If you would like to save regularly we can set up a direct debit or a CU disbursement form to transfer funds into your Shares/Saving account or your E Stamps Balance account. You can use our Express Lodge machine in the Tralee Office or you can lodge directly into your account in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin.

If you use your stamps to save for bills and other expenses:

We have many ways to help you save for bills, such an insurance, electricity, gas, phone and so on.  You can pay towards the bill each week, fortnight or month with a regular bill payment so most of your bill will be cleared even before the bill arrives or you can use your E stamp balance.

We can set up a direct debit to your E Stamp balance which means you don’t have to remember to transfer money or pick up stamps.

Also, this is a much safer way to save as you don’t have to worry about losing your Saving Stamps Cards.

If you use your Saving Stamp cards for my kids/ grandkids birthday/ Christmas gifts:

Once you have their account number you can lodge directly into their account. This is a safer, more secure way to gift as the money is lodged directly into the recipients account.

What happens after the 30th September?

We urge all members to lodge or cash their saving stamps before 30th September as this is the deadline as agreed with our auditors. If you find €2 saving stamp cards after this deadline please bring them to one of our offices in Tralee, Castleisland or Killorglin, along with appropriate photographic ID. Thereafter, each case will be put forward for consideration.
